Biography
At the age of 12, Edward T. Butow owner of Blossom Lawns, started working with his uncle cutting lawns. For each yard he would earn $2.00 out of the $ 25.00 his uncle collected for the job. This, along with a love story, encouraged him to one day begin his own lawn maintenance business. The love story goes like this...Ed, like many other people, had a first love. The nickname for his first love was Blossom, named after a song by James Taylor in 1972. Ed was supposed to marry this woman after high school. But her mother got sick, and she had to leave the state, and they lost touch with each other. The pain of missing her was so bad, Ed started to push a Lawn Boy push mower to run from his pain. The company was never about the money, it was always about the running from love itself. Now the rest of the story...
Blossom Lawns started business in 1976. Ed worked part time at this lawn service while holding a full time position with the Federal Government for eight years. He resigned from the government to pursue the continuing growth of his lawn maintenance business, which grew to 170 residential accounts. By 1986, he had opened a mower shop retailing and servicing small power equipment and turf products such as chemicals, seed, and sod to homeowners and other lawn contractors like him. The business branched out into the commercial market as well, maintaining condo complexes and professional buildings along with 250 residential accounts. To date, Blossom Lawns is contracted with First Energy for all of central and part of southern New Jersey. Blossom Lawns had also run a full Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Program for the county of Ocean Government properties, which consist of 32 acres. Blossom Lawns had a contract for Turf Maintenance of dry/liquid applications for two 100 acre developments, (Four Seasons, Lakewood and The Manor, Wayside).
